WALKOGRAPHY

Hic et Nunc cartographies

Walkography

Walking is the most ordinary human act, and the least examined.

We treat it as method. To move, observe and perceive through every sense is already to read a territory — and to read it is to begin designing it.

To walk is to cartograph.

From that line everything here follows: wellbeing, perception and collaboration are not soft additions to urban design but material for it, gathered one walk at a time.

The method advances by doubt and by drift. To walk is to wander, and to wander is to err — in Latin, one word. We stay errant on purpose: a drift of thought that feeds the drifts of the body.

Climatically Safe Pathways

Climatically safe pathways: not static points to take refuge in, but alternative routes that reward not only speed but the climatic wellbeing of the journey — a variable depending on time of day, season, and the person walking it.

Walkography, an approach

Walkography is a construction that takes shape as its practical and experimental work advances. For that very reason, the texts and publications gathered here will certainly contain inconsistencies and explicit doubts — nothing other than the result of this continuous searching, erring, trying and recalibrating: the result, that is, of an open and transparent research process.

To walk is to cartograph

Walkography began as the need to develop an original methodology for personal observation of territory, starting from walking itself — the most ordinary and least examined of human acts.
